Description
The Home Sweet Home – New England – Quilt Square Kit makes a 10″ × 10″ (25 × 25 cm) block and includes a full backing to cover all of your stitches.
The New England block is the first square in our Home Sweet Home series. This is a medium skill level kit as it uses four stitches – the back stitch, chain stitch, French knot, and of course the blanket stitch. They can be used individually as a wall hanging, a throw pillow cover, as a decorative place setting or table mat, or joined together to make a larger hanging, banner, or even a quilt or bed cover to reflect where you live, where you dream to visit, or perhaps places you did visit or just show off homes across our great nation.
It can also be used as a place to show off your quilt show pins, collectible pins, Disney® pins, Scouting mothers pins, or others. Just attach one in each empty square to start, expanding into the filled squares. If you run out of room just make another square, either another New England or one of the next squares in the series.
Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, floss, a sewing needle and instructions.

- Pin and then blanket stitch the salt box house, stone walkway, and sheep, followed by the roof and sheep’s head.
- Add chain stitching to make the sheep’s leg in black, the tree in brown, and tree leaves in green.

- Attach the second 10″ x 10″ chocolate square to the back of the first and blanket stitch the edge.
Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA. It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.
Why A Blend?
- Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
- The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
- The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
- It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
- Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.
How are Rayon and Cotton Different?
- Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
- Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
