Countryside Garden Wall Hanging Kit

Description

The Countryside Garden Wall Hanging Kit makes a 8½″ x 23½” wall hanging or tapestry.

This wall hanging kit was inspired from my youthful days spent wandering down the paths in my mother’s garden.  It has depth and texture to help bring the flowers alive.  You can almost smell the flowers.

The Bird Bath

There was always a place in my mother’s garden for the birds to find water. The bath was a favorite gathering place where I saw many different birds. Nestled around it were my favorite pansies and Johnny Jump-ups shining their faces to the sun. This makes a 6″ square block.

The Path

In the garden we had a meandering path that wove its way through the flower beds. It provided many days of entertainment where we could wonder and play and enjoy the beauty of the delphiniums, black-eyed Susans, daisies, pinks, and nasturtiums. This makes a 6″ square block.

The Sun Dial

“Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be” was inscribed on the sundial in our garden. Scattered through the garden were beds of daffodils, violets, and hostas. This makes a 6″ square block.

This pre-cut kit contains all three scenes below plus the two-layer thick background.

Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, floss, a sewing needle, and instructions.

Instructions:

1. For each square, pin all parts in place on a black base square following the pictures on the box.
2. PATH:
   • Blanket stitch:
     1. Blue Sky with blue floss
     2. Green Grass with light green floss
     3. Sandstone Path – brown floss
     4. The small Foreground Grass with light green floss
   • Add stems, flowers, and details
     1.  Delphiniums
        • Add stems with chain stitch in green floss
        • Make petals with single chain stitches in cream floss
     2. Black Eyed-Susans
        • Add stems with chain stitch in light green floss
        • Attach yellow petals with three stitches in black floss
     3. Cream Daisies
        • Add stems with chain stitch in light green floss
        • Attach 4 cream heart shaped petals with yellow French knots
     4. Brown Nasturtiums
        • Gather and attach each with a single stitch in brown floss
     5. Pinks
        • Attach three pink hearts with two cream stitches for each flower
        • Add stems with chain stitch in green floss
     6. Path Stones
        • Make Path stones using a back stitch in brown floss
3. BIRD BATH:
   • Blanket Stitch:
     1. Blue Sky with blue floss
     2. Green Grass with light green floss
     3. Sandstone Pedestal– brown floss
     4. Sky blue water with blue floss
   •  Pedestal
     1. Add lines to pedestal using a back stitch and brown floss
   • Pansies
     1. Attach two cream and one violet heart for each flower using three stitches with yellow floss
     2. Add leaves using a single chain stitch with green floss
   • Water
     1. add water ripples using a back stitch in blue floss
   •  Willow Tree
     1. Make the tree trunk and branches with a chain stitch using brown floss
     2. Add leaves using single chain stitch stitches and light green floss
   • Sun Rays
     1. Add the rays using a back stitch in yellow floss
4. SUN DIAL:
   • Blanket Stitch:
     1. Blue Sky with blue floss
     2. Green Grass with light green floss
     3. Sandstone Pedestal– brown floss
     4. Fence – brown floss
   • Sun Dial Pedestal
     1. Add lines using a backstitch in brown floss
     2. Add vines using a chain stitch in green floss
     3. Add yellow rose buds using a French knots
     4. Add the gnomon using a chain stitch in yellow floss
   • Fence
     1. Add wood grain to the fence using a back stitch in brown floss
     2. Add vines using a chain stitch in green floss
     3. Add yellow rose buds using French knots
   • Leaves
     1. Attach the green leaves using a chain stitch in cream floss
   • Violets
     1. Attach three heart shaped violet petals to make each flower using a French knot with cream floss
   • Daffodils
     1. Attach a center and a gathered center to make each flower with stitch in yellow floss
5. Assembly
   • Makeup the loops, double thick with a blanket stitch on both long edges in black floss
   • Attach each square to backing using a back stitch with cream floss
   • Add vines to the corners using a chain stitch with green floss
   • Add rose buds using French knots in red floss
   • Attach backing to hanging and insert loops at top with a blanket stitch on all edges with black floss.

Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA.  It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.

Why A Blend? 

• Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
• The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
  • The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
  • It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
• Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.

How are Rayon and Cotton Different?

• Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
• Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
