The Full Sized Needle Book Kit makes one 5″L × 3″W with four pages for your needles.

This mid-1800s style needle book is used to store your needles, keeping them from getting lost. It helps minimize rusting of non-plated steel needles which were traditional in the 1800s.

A needle with floss is pinned on one side of a page allowing you to store your needle with floss as the floss will naturally stick to the wool felt and minimize tangling.

It has two wool felt insert sheets that are folded in half making  four pages or eight sides.  You might wonder “Why Eight Sides?”  This seems to have come about because in the late 1700s the popular colors were black, red, yellow, green, blue, violet/purple, cream, and pink.  That’s eight colors.  A person would leave their needle threaded with floss and insert it on one side of a page.  The floss naturally will stick to the wool felt keeping your needles and threaded needles nicely organized and ready to use.

In addition to your needles, you can also store various pins as well.  We had one mom store her mother’s pins from scouting in one needle book devoted to her scout.

This kit makes a great sewing basket gift for anyone who is experienced or for someone just starting out.  It goes good with our sewing kit in red or black.

Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, floss, a sewing needle and instructions.  You can even download our instructions before you buy the kit to check it out.  And when you are done, you can put your needle with the floss on it right in the sewing book.

Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA.  It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.

Why A Blend? 

• Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
• The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
  • The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
  • It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
• Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.

How are Rayon and Cotton Different?

• Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
• Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
