Holly and Berry Garland Kit

Description

The Holly and Berry Garland Kit makes a 6 foot long (72″) garland and is a great decoration for the Christmas holidays.

This kit makes a double-sided 72″ garland with holly leaves and red berries.  You can make it single-sided and double the length to 144″.  It uses a simple blanket stitch to make the double-sided leaves and berries followed by a running stitch to join the berries into a long chain. The kit contains precision-cut leaves and berries plus a ball of floss and an embroidery needle, everything you need to start building the garland.

Hang the garland on your Christmas tree or over a door frame or from a chandelier or other light to make any room more festive. We hope you enjoy your holly garland.

Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, a ball of floss, a sewing needle and instructions.

Instructions:

1. Pin two holly leaves together. Blanket stitch the edges, repeat to make 24 leaf sets.
2. Pin two pennies together. Blanket stitch the edges, repeat to make 24 penny sets.
3. Attach one leaf set to the next with a “berry” at the junction using a running stitch. Repeat for all leaves.
4. Alternatively, use a running stitch and put the center rib down the leaf while attaching it to the next

Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA.  It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.

Why A Blend? 

• Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
• The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
  • The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
  • It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
• Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.

How are Rayon and Cotton Different?

• Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
• Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
