Ladybug & Heart Pincushion Kit

Description

The Ladybug and Heart Pincushion Kit makes a ~5″×5″ pincushion.  The ladybugs patrol this pillow-style pincushion. We like to use the straight pins with the white bead ends as they look like food for the ladybugs.

Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, floss, a sewing needle and instructions.

Instructions:

1. Backstitch the center three ladybug bodies onto a green square using black floss. Then blanket stitch their red wings using black floss.
2. Attach the petals for the Minnesota Rose using red floss.
3. Blanket stitch with black floss, the 2nd green square to the back. Leave half of each side next to the rose un-stitched to insert stuffing later.
4. Pin the corner ladybug bodies on the front with matching bodies on the back, making sure to align them.
5. Blanket stitch the bodies, the add wings and blanket stitch them.
6. Add French knots for spots in black and eyes in cream.
7. Chain stitch the ladybug feelers in black and back stitch the trails.
8. Insert fill stuffing, excess is provided to allow you to control the amount of fill desired. Blanket stitch the remaining edge closed.
9. Add a loop of floss to one corner to hang.

Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA.  It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.

Why A Blend? 

• Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
• The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
  • The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
  • It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
• Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.

How are Rayon and Cotton Different?

• Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
• Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
