Patriotic Star Garland Kit

Description

The Patriotic Star Garland Kit makes 13 star shaped ornaments – one for each of the original 13 colonies that formed our great country.

The ornaments are made up of three different sized stars with the larger ones have stuffing. The large ornaments are approximately 4″ tall. You can make these to hang individually, in groups or made up as a garland.

Use them as a decoration any time.  Showing your patriotism should not be just on July 4th.  In the words of Adlai Stevenson, “Patriotism is not a short frenzied burst of emotion, but the long and steady dedication of a lifetime.”

Everything you need to start is right in the package including precision cut wool felt, floss, a sewing needle and instructions.

Instructions:

1. This kit contains enough materials to make 6 Large and 7 Medium Patriotic Star Ornaments. Each ornament is made of three different sized star parts – a larger star, a medium star, and a smaller star. There are two of each of the larger stars (one part for the front and one part for the back to hide the stitching). The 6 large ornaments have stuffing added to puff them up. The ball of floss comes in either red, blue, or cream.
2. Use the box cover image as your guide for star colors.
3. Pin together ornaments as follows:
   • For the 6 Large ornaments use one 4” large star base, one 2½” star, and one 1¼” star.
   • For the 7 Medium ornaments use one 2⅞” large star base, one 2” star, and one 1¼” star.
4. Blanket stitch each ornament – the small star to the medium star, then the medium star to the large star base.
5. Place each ornament on top of its 2nd larger star base.
6. Large Ornaments Only – Insert a star stuffing between the front of the ornament and the 2nd larger star base.
7. Blanket stitch the edges of each ornament to join the front to the back.
8. Attach a loop of floss to hang or string together for a garland.

Our wool felt is Made in the USA from wool grown in the USA.  It is a blend of 35% wool and 65% rayon.

Why A Blend? 

• Our goal was to have a blend that is close to the wool/cotton blend which has been in use for hundreds of years through out the world.
• The wool/cotton blend was favored over 100% wool or 100% cotton as the combination provided much better service
  • The wool provided strength and warmth while the cotton added breathability and softness to touch.
  • It was an ideal combination for all kinds of weather and purposes.
• Rayon and cotton are almost identical with cotton being a little bit softer and rayon being more silky or shinny on the surface.

How are Rayon and Cotton Different?

• Rayon is made from cellulose, a carbohydrate plant substance, derived from wood and wood pulp which is then made into fibers.
• Cotton is made of cellulose fibers from the cotton plant.
